All majors are required to take the two-quarter introductory sequence to the major, GLST 23101 Global Studies I and GLST 23102 Global Studies II, offered annually, and one designated methods course. In addition to this, they take four courses in one of our thematic tracks, and three electives, either within the program or approved courses relevant to themes pursued in Global Studies. The four tracks are:
- Political Economy
- Health, Environment, and Urban Studies
- Law, Borders, and Security
- Race, Gender, and Religion
Additionally, Global Studies majors should complete one "Research Activity," and fulfill the Global Studies Foreign Language Requirement. For full details on these requirements, please consult the full curriculum.
Finally, all Global Studies Majors complete a capstone project. This may be a paper of approximately 20-35 pages, or a project such as a podcast, short film, artwork, or other multimedia work. Students who aspire to graduate with Honors in Global Studies must complete a BA Thesis on a contemporary global issue following a two-course BA Thesis Seminar in the Autumn and Winter of their final year in the College.
If you are unsure if a class is approved for Global Studies, please search for it on the Approved Course List. This list is always growing, so if you would like to take a course that is not on the list, please contact Lee Price or Callie Maidhof about possible additions.
